Greening Kampala City (GKC) is a city-wide initiative working to address climate
change through
urban greening. The project promotes tree growing, nature restoration, and community awareness
as practical
solutions to the challenges of rapid urbanization.
By bringing trees, flowers, and green spaces back into our neighborhoods, GKC helps create a
healthier, cooler,
and more climate-resilient Kampala for everyone.
Our Focus
We believe that a greener city starts with informed and empowered communities. GKC combines environmental education with hands-on action to restore nature where people live, learn, and work.
Project Activities
- 1. Greening Kawempe Campaign; A community-led drive to increase tree cover and green spaces across Kawempe. We work with households, schools, youth groups, and local leaders to plant and care for trees that improve air quality, provide shade, and support urban biodiversity.
-
2. Climate
Awareness Workshops
We run interactive workshops in schools and communities to teach the links between climate change, trees, and daily life. These sessions combine learning with tree growing, helping participants understand how their actions can protect the environment.
-
Tree Growing & Nature Recovery.
We support communities to plant, care for, and raise trees in homes, schools, streets, and public spaces. Our goal is not just to plant trees, but to ensure they grow, survive, and restore nature in the city.
You can be part of the Greening Kampala City movement. Support us by planting trees, volunteering, donating, or partnering with us to bring more green spaces to Kampala. Together, we can build a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable city for future generations.
